Billie Elizabeth McKenzie passed away Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Mabee Nursing Home at Manor Park in Midland. Visitation was held Friday, December 16 at Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home in Crane.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 17 at East Hill Cemetery in Fort Stockton with Bishop Craig McCune officiating under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Billie was born November 5, 1921 in Dallas to Elbert and Nora Boatman. A lifelong resident of Fort Stockton, she graduated from Fort Stockton High School and married her high school sweetheart C.R. McKenzie on June 10, 1940. They were married for 51 years.
Billie and C.R. ranched in the four corners area of New Mexico and in Pecos County. She also taught art and English for Fort Stockton ISD for 25 years. She was a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was also a life member of NEA and TSTA, the Sandhills Art Association, Bloys Encampment, and the Iraan Archeology Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her son Stephen McKenzie, her sister Goldie Boatman, and her brother Elbert Dean "Boatie" Boatman.
She is survived by her daughter Melody Berry and husband John of Fort Stockton, son Kirke McKenzie and wife Lois Ann of Iraan, son Dean McKenzie and wife Katy of Christoval, daughter Cynthia Baranowski and husband Thomas of Midland, son Mark McKenzie and wife Claudia of Round Rock, daughter Lisa Osborn and husband Kelly of Huntsville, and son Lance McKenzie of Lago Vista, 19 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
