Arthur Eugene Myers was born at home on May 18, 1947 to Robert and Lillie Myers. During his school years, he went to Dunbar School; however he graduated from McCamey High School in 1966. During these years, he participated in football and basketball.
Soon after graduation in 1966 he proudly served in the Air Force from July18, 1969 until June 29, 1973; receiving an honorable discharge.
After returning from the service, Arthur moved back to the area, settling his roots in Rankin, Texas with his wife Sybil and their four children. He worked for Halliburton for thirteen years at this time.
He later moved to Odessa, Texas to work at Odessa College for twelve years. During this time he met his current wife Carla and his step children. He later decided to change occupations and worked at Medical Center Hospital. He retired from Medical Center Hospital after five years.
In his spare time, Gene volunteered with the Salvation Army bringing joy to the children in the community being Santa Claus.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Myers.
Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Lillie Myers of McCamey; his wife Carla Organ Myers of Odessa; five sons, Arthur Eugene Myers, Jr., and Robert Louis Myers both of Shreveport, LA; Michael James Organ of Little Elm, TX, Kevin Lee Everett and Kenneth Evan Everett both of Odessa; four daughters, Angela R. Bryant of Shreveport, LA, D'Metrus Y. Myers of Fort Rucker, Alabama, Heather SuLynn Flanagan and her husband Joshua of Groton, Connecticut, and Nickoletta D. Myers of Tampa, Florida; a brother, Robert Mack Myers of McCamey; five sisters, Glenda J. Walker of Odessa, Bobbie May Williams, and Sadie Lee both of Canton, Ohio, Ruby Givens of Odessa, and Margaret Lane of Crane; 7 grandchildren; the mother of Arthur's children, Sybil L. Myers also of Shreveport, LA. He is also survived by four aunts, Henrietta Oliver of Anson, TX, Billie R. Jackson of Elgin, IL, Mary Oliver and Mae Thornton, both of Lancaster, CA; one uncle, Leroy Oliver also of Lancaster, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home Chapel in McCamey.
