Arthur Lane, Jr. (Mr. Jack, Paw Paw, Toose, Sonny Boy, Jelly, Lil’ Arthur) was delivered by a mid-wife on February 5, 1924 to Arthur Lane Sr. and Amanda Knight-Lane in Oak Grove, Tx. His siblings are the late Arthur Lane, Jr. II (A.J.), Elmira Forman and Johnnie Mae Jones.
Jack Lane was united in Holy matrimony to Sammie Belle Mays Lane for over 77 years.
Mr. Jack and wife of 77 years, Sammie Belle Mays-Lane, in their union have 15 children (the late Imogene Young (Bubba D.), Bobbie Montgomery (Blue) and Debra Ranee). He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sammie Belle Lane; his children: Cookie Lane (Crane), Kay Lane (Crane), Johnnie Louise Forge(Crane), Ellis Douglas Lane (Mary Ann) (Crane), Sammie Kaye McWilliams (Bert) (Lubbock), Daisy Marie Jeffery (Rev. Jeffery) (Crane), Joyce Marie Freeman (Bro. Joe) (Odessa), Carolyn Ann Simpson (Lewis) (Crane), Janette Collins (Crane), Arthur Lane III (Kay) (Houston), Vickie Lynn Williams (Terry) (Navarre Florida), Blondie Lane (Arlington), 57 grandchildren, 111 great grandchildren and a host of great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Jack landed in Crane in 1945 on his way to McCamey, Texas where he had a job. The bus left him, and he then began his career working as a mechanic assistant at Stelle Motor Company in Crane, Texas. He attended Odessa College for his mechanic certification. He purchased Jack’s Garage in 1965. Jack was the greatest mechanic in WEST TEXAS at Jack’s Garage. He was a dedicated and faithful father, pawpaw, uncle, brother-in-law and a friend to many. He had a heart of gold. He never met a stranger. He had a passion for all types of projects, the harder the project the better for him, you name it, he would claim it!
Mr. Jack was a member of the Faith In Christ Christian Church where he served as a dedicated Deacon until his health failed him.
Mr. Jack molded, inspired, and cultivated not only his family but others in the community as well; he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Viewing will be held at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home in Crane from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm on Friday, August 21, 2020. Wake services will be from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Sunset Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
