Apolonio Lopez Gutierrez of Crane, Texas went to be with our Lord Jesus on February 27,2025 at his home in Crane.
Viewing will be at the Nichols Funeral Home on Thursday, March 6 from 9am to 9pm which will include a Rosary at 7pm.
Funeral services will be held March 7, 2025 at Good Shepard Catholic Church officiated by Bishop Michael Sis of the San Angelo Diocese and will begin at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow thereafter at the Crane County Cemetery with a reception at the 6Th Street Community Center after. Arrangements are being made by Nichols Funeral Home.
Apolonio was born in Balmorhea, Texas on April 10, 1929, to Eugenio and Josephina Gutierrez. He married Evangelina Urias on December 25, 1956, in Grandfalls, Texas. They were married 68 years. He began working on farms and ranches at a very young age and became the ranch foreman for the Harin Ranch south of McCamey, Texas where he farmed the land and cared for the livestock. In 1969 he moved his family to Crane, Texas where he acquired a position as custodian at the Crane Elementary School. Apolonio and his family became members of the Good Shepard Catholic Church where he began his studies to become a deacon. In 1977 he became a deacon and served the church for 41 years.
Apolonio is preceded in death by two daughters, Socorro and Yolanda Gutierrez. He is survived by his wife Evangelina, sons Leroy Gutierrez with wife Anabel, Gary Gutierrez, daughters Sandy Jimenez with husband Albert, Velma Perez with husband Carlos, and Kathy Bacon with husband Tommy, as well as 23 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
The family wish to extend their sincere thanks to Bishop Sis, Father Kumar, Deacon Felix and the deacons from surrounding communities, all family, friends, and neighbors.
