Antonio S. Benavides, 88 of Fort Stockton, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2008 in San Antonio, Texas.
Rosary vigil prayer services will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 in the St. Joseph Catholic Church sanctuary. Mass will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Fort Stockton Catholic Cemetery. Arrangement are being made by Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Mr. Benavides was born on May 10, 1920 in Fort Stockton, Texas. He was a retired short haul freight delivery truck driver. He served in the US Army, and was a WWII veteran. He married Jesusita Gonzales on October 19, 1947 in Fort Stockton. He was a lifelong resident of Fort Stockton, and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Antonio was a longtime member of the Holy Name Society, LULAC, the G.I. Forum and VFW, and also served on the Fiesta de St. Juan committee, as well as the Church Parish Council. He was preceded in death by a son, Tony E. Benavides in July of 2000.
Survivors include his wife, Jesusita Benavides of Fort Stockton; two sons, Orlando Benavides of San Antonio, and Gilrey Benavides of Albuquerque, NM; one sister, Anita Davis of Canoga Park, CA; 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.
