Alfonso V. Velez

Alfonso Velez, 89, of McCamey, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the McCamey Convalescent Center.

Alfonso was born on October 20, 1935, in Mexico. He was the oldest of 14 children. He married Faustina Lujan on April 29, 1972, in Mexico.

 He enjoyed riding horses, working at the ranches, and playing guitar/singing, spending time with family. Alfonso also enjoyed working out in the oilfield from running flow lines to climbing batteries.

 Alfonso was preceded in death by his Parents, Cruz Velez and Belen Vejar Velez; Brothers, Miguel Velez, Pedro Velez, Fidel Velez; Sisters Belen Flores, Paula Erivez, Guadalupe Rodriguez, and Chona Martinez.

 He is survived by his loving family – Wife, Faustina L. Velez; Children, Marie Meraz (Eddie Meraz Sr.), Eloy Velez, and Erick Baeza (dads nickname for Erick was mi pate uya).

His Grandchildren, Marissa Gomez (Jacob), Daniel Velez (Erika), Eddie Meraz Jr., Albert Meraz; Great Grandchildren, Zeke, Kason and Mia Gomez, Andree, Daisy and Mila Velez, Edelene, Ayleen and Liam; Seven Step Children, Pilar Baeza (Alicia), Aurora Chafino (Jorge), Efrain Baeza (Ana), Yolanda Calderon (Fernando), Graciela Baeza, Rogelio Baeza (Ruth), and Ruben Baeza; and numerous step grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Severo Velez (Rosa), Rafael Velez (Betty); Sisters, Fransisca Quintana (late Salome), Maria Elena Carrasco, Juana Ibanez (Guillermo), and Ramona Hvezda (Mark); and Several Nieces and Nephews.

 Viewing will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 9am to 9pm at the Nichols Funeral Home in McCamey. Funeral services will be held on 11am on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the El Buen Pastor Baptist Church in McCamey with Reverends Robert Ochoa and Genovebo Juarez, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery.

 Pallbearers will be Daniel Velez, Eddie Meraz Jr, Albert Meraz, Erick Baeza, Jacob Gomez, Gilbert Velez.
